        Medieval and Renaissance Players

Constitution

Article I: Name
The name of this organization shall be The Duquesne University Medieval and Renaissance Players.

Article II: Purpose
Dedicated to the premise that one of the best ways to understand drama is to perform it, the Duquesne University Medieval and Renaissance Players will produce Medieval and Renaissance drama, and perform such plays at conferences and other scholarly gatherings in the eastern United States.

Article III: Executive Committee
The Executive Committee consists of the Faculty Advisor, the Producer(s), and the Assistant Producer(s). They are responsible for choosing which plays will be performed and where it/they will be performed.

Article IV: Officers
Producer(s): The Producer's primary duties are to orchestrate the logistics of performances and to find funding for them. The Producer is also responsible for organizing meetings, signing checks, managing finances, and planning events. The Producer is responsible as well for obtaining modern English scripts, if the performances will be done in modern English.
Assistant Producer(s): Helps the Producer accomplish his/her duties.
Director(s): The Director is responsible for the actual performance of a play, including auditioning and casting actors, directing the play, and arranging for sets and costumes. To provide members with exposure to the wider Pittsburgh academic and dramatic communities, a director may choose to audition students from other universities and/or the Pittsburgh community.

Article V: Membership
Any Duquesne University student with an interest in the performance of Medieval and Renaissance drama may be a member, so long as he/she maintains at least a 2.0 GPA. Interested parties may become members simply by expressing a desire to do so to the Producer. Persons from outside the Duquesne University community may participate as Auxiliary Members, but have no voting privileges. In addition, anyone who serves in the capacity of Producer, Assistant Producer, Director, or is involved with performing a play, such as acting or stage managing, is considered a member.

Article VI: Committees
Each separate production will serve as separate committees, each headed by the production's Director.

Article VII: Elections
Officers are not elected; rather, they are chosen based on merit, as evidenced in applications they submit.
Producer(s) and Assistant Producer(s): By February 1, the Faculty Advisor and the current Producer will advertise for applications for Producer(s) and Assistant Producer(s) for the following school year. In these applications, prospective officers will explain how they are qualified to fulfill the duties of the positions. Applications are due by March 1. The Advisor and current Producer will review the applications and, based on the applicants' qualifications, choose Producer(s) and Assistant Producer(s). For the group to be functional, at least one Producer must be chosen. If no suitable applications are received, the Faculty Advisor and current Producer will again solicit applications, to be due March 31. If no suitable applications are received, the group becomes dormant for the following school-year, or until a suitable application is received.
Director(s): After the Producer and Faculty Advisor have determined a play to be performed, at least 6 months before the scheduled performance they will advertise for applications for a Director, allowing at least 1 month before applications are due. Applications may be accepted from people outside the Duquesne community, in order to provide Duquesne students with the opportunity to interact with and learn from members of the local theatrical community. In these applications, prospective directors will explain how they are qualified to fulfill the duties of the position. If no suitable applications are received, the Faculty Advisor and Producer will again solicit applications, again allowing one month before they are due. If no suitable applications are received, the Faculty Advisor and Producer must decide whether to cancel the production or direct it themselves.

Article VIII: Meetings
The Producer shall be responsible for arranging meetings of the Executive Committee, no less than once a semester. The Director shall be responsible for organizing meetings geared towards performing the play (i.e., rehearsals) as many as needed.

Article IX: Voting
The Executive Committee will do any necessary voting. In cases of a tie vote, the deciding vote will be cast by the Faculty Advisor.

Article X: Vacancies
The Faculty Advisor may appoint a replacement for any officers who resign or who is impeached.

Article XI: Finance
The Producer is responsible for determining how much money is necessary for a production, and for finding the means to acquire those funds.

Article XII: Advisor
Dr. Anne Brannen, Assistant Professor of English, is the current Duquesne University Medieval and Renaissance Players' faculty advisor. The Faculty Advisor should be knowledgeable about Medieval and Renaissance Drama, and should use that knowledge to select Producer(s) and Assistant Producer(s), and help select Director(s). In addition, the Faculty Advisor may remove any officers who are not performing their responsibilities. The faculty advisor will serve for a two year term. If the current Faculty Advisor decides not to continue when the term expires, the Producer and the Faculty Advisor will work together to find another faculty member willing to take on the position.

Article XIII: Impeachment of Officers
If an officer is not performing his or her duties properly, the Faculty Advisor may warn him or her that he or she needs to give his or her duties more attention. If the officer's performance does not improve, the Faculty Advisor may remove the officer. Because the Duquesne University Medieval and Renaissance Players will be regularly making performance commitments to outside organizations, it is necessary to give this duty to the Faculty Advisor to ensure that Duquesne University's reputation is not compromised.

Article XIV: Amendments
If the Constitution needs to be amended, the Producer will compose the amendment(s) and the Officers will vote on it. Once approved, the amendment(s) will be submitted to the Assistance Vice President for Student Life, who will then forward it to SGA for review and approval.

Article XV: Interpretation
The Faculty Advisor and Officers are responsible for interpreting the Constitution.

Article XVI: Regulations
The Duquesne University Medieval and Renaissance Players shall comply with the Duquesne University Student Code of Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct. The Student Code outlines procedures, student organization recognition, annual registration and conduct.
